BFI Film Festival Poster
personal project

Create a contemporary poster using primarily handmade techniques to promote the British Film Institute’s ‘Film Noir Season’. To mirror the Film Noir genre in my final design I chose to use a papercut technique to explore the key elements of what defines a film noir movie: monotone, shadows, smoke, urban, the femme fatale and the sleuth. I took a quote based on a cult classic and created a typographic design that characterises the straight-talking narratives of film noir movies. The papercut was photographed in a studio so that I could create and manipulate a real shadow.
